The gaui 200 se v2. a tough little mother

My blog on the heli life has said lots about my adventures with low quality, crappy equipment.... which is the stuff that races my blood. The fact that my hbk2 flies is a miracle in itself. Nothing has been said about the little Gaui 200 sitting on my wall, I need to correct this wrong. This must be about the most underrated 200 class heli around. I have seen it being put through the wringer at club nights and it just bounces back. It is a "proper heli" with all the links and bobs of a 450 or bigger and is a challenge to fly. But why do we love our Gauis?

The feathering bolt is the same as the grip bolt. Built in spares so when you have a review, this is usually all that bends. Swap out and fly again.

Here is the main mast showing the dampers and the short little axis. you would really have to smack down hard into concrete to waste this part.

This is this light swash and washout arms. this links are a little flimsy but because the assembly is so light it is also tough to crack.

fun with xt60

I Always hated that little spring that would break off....

I hated the way Deans refused to solder well

So I changed to xt60's. here we see the two parts linked
with the esc end showing it's little tunnels to help soldering.

The little springs.

The little holes.

Soldering and shrinking done.

Soldered and done on the cell side.

Easy to take apart as well with no pressure on the wires
as you have lots of room to work with.

New Guts for HUX

The new guts for the HUX was needed because the old stuff had so much slop that it was slop itself. The internals are an HK450MT barebones. Which I will review here.....
I am hoping for a tighter, lighter internals.

Not bad head for the bucks. Smooth and no slop at all. Links from the flybar to washout, now fixed links, were useless. I had to swop those out with the old ones as they just slipped out at a breath.

The body of the frame is of incredibly thin carbon as seen here. You have to work carefully as any slip leads to cut fingers..... no i did not. Now a nice metal motor mount.

Not A bad tail at all.

Tail drive is now metal.

Nice little shelf at the back for chocolate storage etc.

Getting ready for the transfer.....

Filter box

Ja, that filter box. This bloody thing is giving me nightmares. anyways, a word of thanks to ADT for the use of one of their signage boards which provide the raw material, and an old table tennis net which will provide the grill......

Looking something like this.

Had some worries about cg of the fuse
so used this 2450 cell which is a little heavier
than 2200.

Also put all the electronics in front. Like so....

And such........

Only a minor cg issue now which will need
a little tweek or two and...... "into the great blue yonder"
or in this case "the small black here."

Progress

A Fine looking heli deserves an fine looking woman!
The amazing Crystal who so patiently dealt with all my C$%$P
"No bigger, no smaller, er... not yellow "burnt yellow", clear, no white
don't cut....on second thoughts cut...etc etc. ........and produced an great set of decals.
She will soon be visited by many other RC dudes with similar irritating requests for decals...

Home sweet home. The fine members of SAPS Lansdowne
mildly embarrased by the presence of HUX on the desk.

Basics done with mech installed.

high level weird

The person Ian Gordon, Librarian and Clarinet Teacher regards himself as a fairly straight-up, if slightly humourless person. The "Flatspin" persona is the other slightly crazy side of myself, a person available to fly anywhere, anytime with no regard for what is being flown or where or what time such item/ items are flown. I have over the past few years have had great pride in this slightly loopy side of myself as this has provided great relief to me from the very serious and professional person I am forced to be in my role as teacher and librarian. I was thus deeply disturbed tonight to find somebody at my Kenilworth centre hang out that is some orders of magnitude weirder than me. Coming from the drome at 11.45p.m. it occurred to me that a change to the mechanical trim on a cyclic servo might have a good effect on the performance on the hopped up tail hk450 so to Kenilworth I drove. There i was greeted by a guy playing bongo drums in the parking lot. This dude was quite clearly nicely stoned on some good weed. I asked if it was ok if I flew around a bit. He looked at me sideways a bit and then said, "no probably man, but can I play my didgeridoo?" He then hauled out this huge didge from the boot of his car and proceeded to bongo drum and play the didge at the same time. The moral of the story is that if you dare to think that you are a bit strange.... don't panic, there is always someone weirder than you.

Work begins on the front section spray.
Police blue.

No, you don't just start spraying! Each curve
of the spray area is carefully checked by uncle V.
Screw-ups are harshly punished in spray land.
