flatspin goes 1:1

Thanks to a kind invite from Michiel Besier (AloIII) Flatspin got a flip in one of HELI's R22's. From first impressions, a very tightly run and professional ship indeed.

Their clinically clean hanger provided some "Lusting" opportunities notably hugging a Eurocopter, an action which may be frowned upon by those not in the know.... but you guys and gals understand.......

A couple of R44's parked.

Nice to see that some full scales still have a flybar. A Classic, the Bell 47

The back end of a recently, er, "reviewed" R22 now receiving some upgrades. The heli, just back from it's service had fatigued tail shaft bolts..... un-noticed by Robinson technical guys in Joberg.... these sheared off leading to the review. No injuries but close. The little star goody connects to the tail shaft by the 4 bolts.

A Guts Out Lycoming engine getting and overhaul.

Robbie Tail

They don't run on water folks! Ground-crew re-fueling for our flight.

Michiel busy with pre-flight

Michiel still on pre-flight

Spam in a can! Ready to fly into the big blue.

All strapped in and feeling safe.... like this guy!

But still smiling!

The very functional Robbie instrument panel.

UP we go!!!

For me, the most remarkable feature of the R22, the TRIM STRINGS. Vital little bits of wool hang on the front of the heli showing you you tail trim relative wind wise. Such an elegant solution, no?

Ysterplaat. They never knew what hit them....

All the little people

Sportsman's Whorehouse Rondebosch East. No Specials Available from this height.

Kenilworth Centre, A place dear to my heart. During my starting days in RC helis an always open, sheltered, warm and friendly place.

Robben Island

The picture that launched a thousand calenders. Every tourist's dream pic of YKW.

Visantekraal landing strip.

Thanks for the safe trip birdie! Thanks to Michiel for the fantastic flight. with some great piloting. I felt very safe and comfortable for my first 1:1 heli flight You guys are a bunch of lucky bastards to be able to call the skies your workplace. The flight was in windy, choppy conditions so I really felt the flight, which is EXACTLY what I wanted and got.
