Lots of nice toys on show at club night! This is a 450 size co-ax, with an all-steel frame and tail!
Highlight of the night was no doubt, the amazing "octocopter" which flew well but ended badly.
Werner and the HK guys brought out their low cost HK 600's
Gwtting the HK 600's ready for a hover.
Lois, Mav and Lotus7 chewing the fat.
Lois has a REAL Trex 600.
time to mourn

flatspin goes 1:1
Thanks to a kind invite from Michiel Besier (AloIII) Flatspin got a flip in one of HELI's R22's. From first impressions, a very tightly run and professional ship indeed.
Their clinically clean hanger provided some "Lusting" opportunities notably hugging a Eurocopter, an action which may be frowned upon by those not in the know.... but you guys and gals understand.......

A couple of R44's parked.

Nice to see that some full scales still have a flybar. A Classic, the Bell 47

The back end of a recently, er, "reviewed" R22 now receiving some upgrades. The heli, just back from it's service had fatigued tail shaft bolts..... un-noticed by Robinson technical guys in Joberg.... these sheared off leading to the review. No injuries but close. The little star goody connects to the tail shaft by the 4 bolts.

A Guts Out Lycoming engine getting and overhaul.

Robbie Tail

They don't run on water folks! Ground-crew re-fueling for our flight.

Michiel busy with pre-flight

Michiel still on pre-flight

Spam in a can! Ready to fly into the big blue.

All strapped in and feeling safe.... like this guy!

But still smiling!

The very functional Robbie instrument panel.

UP we go!!!

For me, the most remarkable feature of the R22, the TRIM STRINGS. Vital little bits of wool hang on the front of the heli showing you you tail trim relative wind wise. Such an elegant solution, no?

Ysterplaat. They never knew what hit them....

All the little people

Sportsman's Whorehouse Rondebosch East. No Specials Available from this height.

Kenilworth Centre, A place dear to my heart. During my starting days in RC helis an always open, sheltered, warm and friendly place.

Robben Island

The picture that launched a thousand calenders. Every tourist's dream pic of YKW.

Visantekraal landing strip.

Thanks for the safe trip birdie! Thanks to Michiel for the fantastic flight. with some great piloting. I felt very safe and comfortable for my first 1:1 heli flight You guys are a bunch of lucky bastards to be able to call the skies your workplace. The flight was in windy, choppy conditions so I really felt the flight, which is EXACTLY what I wanted and got.

Ysterplaat Airshow 2010
What do you get when you make your RC Heli just a little bigger and add some seats?... A Rotorway Talon A600. Civair will take you on a 2 hour "Heli experience for just R500 until 31 October. I will tell you how it went after Wednesday, if I live. The barf bags, I have been informed are free.

The Gaui 200 tail with Chinese weight m....er wait, actually a Talon tail. Notice the vital zip-tie holding the whole thing together.

The super, Super Lynx, for once sitting quietly instead of chopping the air into submission.

Don't you love women in uniform? Sgt AH Shene Ground-crew ops from I believe AFB Waterkloof.

Rooivalk test pilot Eben Brand kindly posed with me for this shot.

For the Man Who Has Everything. The Skelar autonomous heli drone. Probably the ultimate in RC Helis!

A Eurocopter EC120.

Nice Russian heli waiting to start-up.

Awesome Rooivalk model about 700 class size, maybe a bit bigger. Wessie from Clowns had this at his stall and said it cost Denel R50 000 to manufacture., but they haven't realized that they can probably make more from selling these than the real one........ any bids?

ER.... the slightly bigger version

Nice little closeup of the the Euro's Fenstrom

The Elephant In The Room was very much the beautiful Boeing c17 which you really could not miss seeing. It did the most amazing landing in about 3000 ft.

The very friendly and professional crew of the C17 kindly
posed with me for this pic!

Loadmaster on the C17 is Kevin Fley.

Hey! here's a nice little chopper for your
Chrismas stocking, the Angstrom 250b. A Steal at only R9m.
A big saving on the R11m last year. Step in NOW while the Rand
is so strong.....

A bit more comfort in the 280.....
and you get a free balloon.

A better class of Aircrew posing with me from our
magnificent Police Airwing.

A very sweet a109 winding down from a flight The camo is so good you can hardly see these birds when they sit on the ground.
