FRANKENHELI

Well, not much left of the original heli. I said somewhere on rchq that the HBK2 is a great bird if you just replace every part! Here is a little points to date picture!

kc and the no sunshine wind band

Last night was fun. Went down to kc for a late night buzz. Entertained about 4 Chubb response guys, at least no chance of being attacked because of all the fire-power! Try fly out to right, turn and across, nose-in, rotate and tail-in. Repeat for left side. So I get the one side right....YEAHHHH!!!!. Now for the left... So I go left, do the turn start moving in and somehow the canopy pops off and into the blades. Splat. Rebuilt the canopy with various mods ie wider, longer. Today the wind meant just hover in garage. One of Goolies lipos finally started going. Insane high charge on one of the cells. Fitted also the lithimon which works very well to warn of low voltage. Cutout kicks in with a yellow light at 3.60v. Towards 3.00 you get a buzzer. Slightly longer flight time as well.

tail spin

After an afternoon of rain. I napped and woke to perfect still weather. Out to kc for a buzz. Great stuff but Goolies tail servo popped out while I was in a hover and I spun to the ground. Crew survives with no injuries. Third towerpro to go? Maybe I am stressing the limits. Very impressed with the Lithimon, cooler batteries, and longer run time!

youngsfield sunday

Brilliant day for flying at YF. Walked into a Electric vs Sailplanes fight! But went off to a corner and hover 3 beautiful packs before the usual nose-in crash! 1 Pushlink and blades gone. The Blade 400 main gear is awesome but has no durability. These king designers had their shit together when creating the original main gear. It's weakness is that it bends, it's strength IS THAT IT BENDS! One minor crash and a few of the teeth were taken out. But, amazingly when the motor runs up it all sounds pretty smooth. Got cg set without a weight for first time so was sad to see it all go in one flight.

dining room time!

Well today was a revelation. No more need to stalk into shopping mall parking late at night. I can now hover the honeybee in the dining room. We are experiencing rotten weather in Cape Town at the moment with 13c day temp so waht a pleasure! I was so scared of this little bird a few months ago and would never have dreamt of this type of hover!

New Main Gear

According to various web postings, the Blade 400 gear is cheaper and of better quality than the Esky. R40.oo vs R100 at Hobby W. Just got hold of it and pushed it straight through with a G-Clamp. Nice and strong and does not wobble at all. perfect mesh with the extreme400 motor as well. Then flew at KC but in the windy high ceilinged section. Great fun but very cold!
